Transition from Home Care Packages to Support at Home

On 1 November 2025, Home Care Packages transitioned to the new Support at Home program. If you were already receiving a Home Care Package, or had been approved for one, your services moved into the new system automatically.

For many people, this transition has been designed to ensure continuity and stability.

Grandfathered arrangements

If you had an approved and assigned Home Care Package as of 12 September 2024, you were transferred into Support at Home under grandfathered arrangements. This means specific financial protections apply to you.

The Australian Government introduced the “no worse off” principle to ensure people already in the aged care system are not financially disadvantaged by the reforms.

The “no worse off” principle applies to you if you:

Were receiving a Home Care Package as of 12 September 2024, or
Were approved for a Home Care Package as of 12 September 2024 and were waiting for allocation through the National Priority System.
