FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers to common questions about aged care services, funding, and support at home.
What is aged care at home?

Aged care at home provides personalised support services that help older Australians remain safe, independent and comfortable in their own home. Services can include personal care, domestic assistance, nursing care, allied health, transport and social support, depending on your needs.

What aged care programs are available in Australia?

There are several government-funded aged care programs, including Support at Home, CHSP (Commonwealth Home Support Programme), Transition Care, DVA/VHC home care services and the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS). Private aged care services are also available for immediate, flexible support.

How do I access aged care services at home?

Most government-funded services require registration through My Aged Care 1800 200 422 and an assessment to determine eligibility. Our team can guide you through the aged care assessment process, explain your options and help you get started.

What is the difference between CHSP and Support at Home?

CHSP provides entry-level home care support for people needing minimal assistance, while Support at Home (replacing Home Care Packages) offers ongoing, coordinated care for more complex or higher support needs.

Can I start aged care services immediately?

Yes. While government-funded services may involve waiting periods, private aged care services can be arranged quickly, allowing you to access immediate home care support without delays.

What services can I receive at home?

Services may include personal care, domestic assistance, meal preparation, transport, nursing care, allied health, respite care, social support and home maintenance. Support is tailored to your individual needs and preferences.

Do I have to pay for aged care at home?

Costs depend on the program. Some services are government-subsidised, with a small client contribution, while private home care services are paid directly. We can help explain aged care costs and funding options.

Can I choose my care worker?

We aim to match you with a care worker who suits your preferences, including language, culture and personality. Building trusted, consistent relationships is an important part of quality aged care.

Can services change if my needs change?

Yes. Your home care plan can be reviewed and adjusted as your needs change, ensuring you continue to receive the right level of aged care support at home.

What if I feel socially isolated?

Programs like the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) provide companionship and social support through fortnightly visits, helping reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing.

Can I receive care after a hospital stay?

Yes. Transition Care services provide short-term support after hospital discharge, helping you recover, regain strength and return safely to daily living at home.
